Professor Piotr Milkiewicz, MD, DSc, MRCP(UK) graduated from Pomeranian Medical School in 1991. Received his medical/research training in Poland (Departments of Gastroenterology/Internal Medicine, M.Curie Hospital, Pomeranian University Hospital, Szczecin; under supervision of prof. Krzysztof Marlicz); United Kingdom (Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham; under supervision of prof. Elwyn Elias) and  Canada (Toronto Western Hospital, University of Toronto; under supervision of prof. Jenny Heathcote). Specialist in gastroenterology with subspecialty in hepatology (in the UK).  He defended his MD thesis in 1999 (title: Liver Transplantation in Autoimmune Hepatitis) and his DSc thesis in 2002 (title: Lysyl fluorescein conjugated bile acids analogues  (LFCBAA) in experimental and clinical hepatology). In 2007 he received his professorship in medicine. He is an author/co-author of around 200 publications (ISI WoS: H-index 30, citation >3.100).  His main  scientific interests  include  chronic cholestasis, mechanisms of hepatoprotection, health related quality of life in chronic liver conditions and liver transplantation.
